Ask AI is Typo’s conversational insight tool that helps you go from question to decision in seconds. Instead of navigating multiple sections or setting up complex reports, you can simply ask questions and get immediate, data-backed answers about your engineering team.
Whether you’re identifying bottlenecks, reviewing team health, or analyzing sprint trends, Ask AI connects your metrics directly to your day-to-day workflows—so insights are always just a question away.
🔍 What can Ask AI do?
Ask AI helps you uncover the "why" behind your metrics. You can ask for insights on:
Velocity & Efficiency: Track PR cycle times, throughput, and development bottlenecks.
Team Health: Monitor workload distribution and identify burnout risks before they happen.
Sprint Performance: Get a pulse check on sprint completion and predictability.
System Health: Understand your overall engineering operational maturity.
Improvement Areas: Discover data-driven next steps for your team.

Quick Start: You can also click one of the suggested prompt cards located below the search bar to jumpstart your analysis (e.g., "Compare the performance of teams" or "How's our PR Cycle Time").

Ask AI uses your existing Typo data - PRs, contributors, team mappings, and metrics. It doesn’t add new data; it helps you understand what’s already there, faster.
⚙️ How to use Ask AI
Navigate: Open the Ask AI section from the top-right corner of your Typo Home page or easily access it from the left menu bar.
Ask: Type your question in the input box labeled "Ask Anything...".
Get Insights: Press Enter or click send. Ask AI analyzes your existing data (PRs, contributors, team mappings) to generate a response.
Refine: Need more detail? Ask a follow-up question to dig deeper.
đź’ˇ Pro Tip: Be specific! Mentioning a specific team, metric, or time range (e.g., "last 30 days") helps Ask AI give you the most precise results.

Ask AI is a secure, multi-tenant AI assistant that provides engineering insights while maintaining the highest standards of data privacy and security. This document explains how your data is protected and why it never leaves your control.
Important Notes
Data Source: Ask AI uses your existing Typo data. It does not create new data; it simply helps you interpret your current active repos, contributors, and configurations faster.
Access: Your ability to query data depends on your assigned role and permissions within the Typo dashboard.
History: Want to revisit an answer? Access your previous conversations via the Chat History icon in the top-left section.
